The Penn St Clusterfuck: As The Ambiguity Turns

At this point, who’s to say what is what in these times of complication and conjecture. And bullshit.

The Penn State Board of Trustees has given Mike McQueary paid administrative leave for his role in the giant clusterfuck that blew up about a week and a half ago. And that’s it, at this juncture in time. Oh, and then Jerry Sandusky was on NBC’s Rock Center this past Monday night speaking to Bob Costas in what had to be the creepiest phone conversation this side of comedian Jimmy Norton’s Uncle Paul calling an adolescent relative for a playdate.

So others in this awful Chex Mix of national tragedy have experienced worse fates than he. In the victim’s eyes, it’s still all in vain. The truly awful events that occurred need not be mentioned, for they already are legally documented and available (link up to the 23 page document).

It’s important to note that the 23-page legal testimony is only one source of information. McQueary doesn’t belong on the roster of all-time worst people ever, just yet. Some dust has settled, and now the voices from his camp are saying that he actually did more than was previously reported to remove the 10-year-old in danger from the alleged pederast clutches of Sandusky. Alleged. Must keep that word in the running until some semblance of resolution can find its way to light amidst all the darkness.

The layer of difficulty that won’t go away from this story is the emotion involved, as well it shouldn’t. So now we all get to witness the court cases, the pontificating legal defenses, and the blowhard television talking heads that will all get their moment in front of the camera. There will be no smooth jazz played in this festival of pain, so it’s best not to expect any here.

In times like these, a little soft music is more than welcome.

And that’s my giving a damn.

The Penn St Clusterfuck: The Victims Deserve Better

Children need to be safe, that’s all there is to it.

This is hardly the first story on the biggest CLUSTERFUCK of the year, but it really seems that a few of the people throwing their two cents into the mix aren’t hitting on the necessary point. Kids have to be safe, they deserve that much. And to be abused at all like the victims allegedly have been is a tragically low point in the integrity of humankind.

So there’s a traditional hierarchy in place at Penn State, that should not factor into anything. So there was a cover-up, that should be factored into the conspiracy of the matter. So there’s a head coach that has been the figurehead of the university’s football program for decades…all this shit just doesn’t matter.

Shut it down. Shut it down now.

There needs to be a swooping in of law and order like no one has ever seen before. Segregate and quarantine all those who had any little thing to do with the story at all, and get the facts. Forget the media, forget press conferences, and forget bullshit rally sessions outside Paterno’s house. I mean for fuck’s sake, really? All of that needs to be pushed aside for the real professionals to do their jobs. And if it needs national intervention, then so be it.

At the very least, children’s lives were destroyed of their innocence. And that’s a fucking tragedy in itself. The fallout gets worse by the day, and I can’t believe that Paterno might possibly coach his team this weekend against Nebraska. It’s earth-shattering sometimes that the necessary course of logical action doesn’t take place as it should. We’re all human, and I’m a fucking idealist until I die, but shit deserves to happen way differently than it has already. And that order includes the removal of everyone involved with this case, regardless of their position. Take them away from public life, administrative positions, and whatever else they do in their lives that has to do with being around anyone that they could possibly harm. There is so much of this that is is complicated, I get that…but that much of it is simple.

If anything, the underage victims and their families deserve to have due process from this very point on. They’ve got a lifetime of healing to do. They deserve to have their healing begin today.

And that’s my giving a damn.
